Bob May (April 13, 1940 – January 18, 2009) was an American actor best known for his portrayal of the beloved robot character The Robot in the 1960s television series Lost in Space.

May was born in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up in Queens. He was an avid reader since his youth and was inspired to pursue a career in acting. He attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, and after graduation, he began appearing on stage in various plays. His first major break came in 1964 when he was cast as The Robot in the CBS science fiction television series Lost in Space.

May was a master of physical performance and created an instantly recognizable character. He was a master of comedic timing and could bring a humorous edge to the role that was very popular with the viewers. May often improvised on set and his character was beloved by many, not only in the United States but also in foreign countries.

May also appeared in several movies and television shows throughout the 1960s and 1970s, including McHale's Navy, The Monkees, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E.. He also wrote and directed a theatrical production, Love and Let Love, in the 1970s.

May retired from acting in the 1980s but continued to appear in fan conventions and other events. He was also a popular guest on various talk shows, such as The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and The Dick Cavett Show. In 2006, May reprised his role as The Robot in the film adaptation of Lost in Space.

In 2009, after a long battle with cancer, May passed away at the age of 68. He was remembered fondly by fans around the world, and his memory lives on in his iconic performance as The Robot. May is remembered as a unique talent who brought joy to millions of people through his performances.
