Benedikt Höwedes is a professional footballer from Germany who currently plays for Lokomotiv Moscow in the Russian Premier League. He is a versatile defender, capable of playing anywhere along the backline, but is mostly deployed as a center back.

Höwedes was born on 29 February 1988 in Haltern am See, Germany. He began his youth career at his hometown team, Halterner SV, before joining Schalke 04 at the age of 13. He quickly rose through the ranks of the youth system and made his professional debut in 2006 at the age of 18.

Höwedes quickly established himself as a key member of the Schalke first team, with his solid defensive performances earning him a place in the German national team in 2010. He went on to make over 200 appearances for Schalke and won two German Cups and the German Super Cup during his time at the club.

In 2017, Höwedes left Schalke to join Italian side Juventus. However, he struggled to break into the first team and after just one season, he moved to Lokomotiv Moscow. At Lokomotiv, Höwedes has been a key member of the team, helping them to win the Russian Cup and the Russian Super Cup in 2019.

Off the pitch, Höwedes is a passionate philanthropist, and in 2018 he was awarded the Fritz-Walter medal for his charitable work. He has also been involved in various campaigns to promote football in his native Germany.
