Barbara Beuys is a German actress and voice actress who has appeared in numerous television, film and stage productions. She is best known for her roles in films such as The Reader (2008), The Baader Meinhof Complex (2008), and A Most Wanted Man (2014).

Beuys was born in Essen, Germany in 1974. She studied acting at the National Theater School in Berlin and the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna.

She began her career as an actress in 1991, appearing in television series such as Akte X and Der Alte. She continued to appear in television series throughout the 1990s, including Der Bulle von Tölz, Schwarz Rot Gold and most notably, Lindenstraße.

In 2001, Beuys made her feature film debut in the comedy U-900. She went on to star in several other films, including the drama The Reader (2008) and the biographical drama The Baader Meinhof Complex (2008). She also appeared in the critically acclaimed A Most Wanted Man (2014), co-starring alongside the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.

In addition to her feature film roles, Beuys has also starred in numerous stage productions. She has performed at the Burgtheater in Vienna, the Deutsches Theater in Berlin, and the Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. She has also voiced characters in several animated films, including Die Wilden Kerle (2006), and lent her voice to video games such as Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun (2016).

Beuys has won numerous awards for her work, including the Bavarian Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in The Reader (2008). She continues to act in both film and theatre, and is highly respected for her performances.


Beuys is a passionate advocate for animal rights, and is a member of the animal rights organization PETA. She has also been involved in several environmental initiatives and is an active supporter of Greenpeace.
