BIO

Alexandru Solomon is a Romanian filmmaker, cinematographer and producer. He is a member of the European Documentary Network and a central figure in the contemporary Romanian documentary scene. Solomon is also co director of the One World Romania International Human Rights Documentary Festival and serves as president of the One World Romania Association.

He began his career in the early 1990s as a director of photography, working on both documentary and fiction films. Alongside this work, he started directing his own documentaries at a time when the genre was still largely discredited in Romania after the fall of communism. Solomon was among the first Romanian filmmakers to commit to documentary film as a critical and independent form of expression during this period.

Over the years, he has established himself as one of the leading political documentary filmmakers from Romania, with films that have circulated widely on the international festival circuit. His work is characterised by a strong interest in power structures, propaganda, collective memory and the unresolved legacies of Romania’s recent history.

Solomon’s films have repeatedly sparked public debate about the role of documentary cinema within the public sphere. Through his practice, he has contributed significantly to the re positioning of documentary film in Romania as a space for historical reflection, civic engagement and critical inquiry.
