Yonfan is a Chinese-born Hong Kong film director and screenwriter. He is best known for his films such as "Bishonen" (1998), "Peony Pavilion" (2001), "Prince of Tears" (2009) and "No. 7 Cherry Lane" (2019).

Yonfan was born in Hunan Province, China in 1957. He moved to Hong Kong in the late 1970s and began his career as a commercial artist. He made his directorial debut in 1986 with the low budget feature "A Fighter’s Blues", which was well-received by critics and audiences alike.

Yonfan has since become one of the most acclaimed filmmakers in the Hong Kong New Wave movement. His films are known for their bold visual style, lush cinematography, and complex narratives. He has also explored a variety of themes, including gender identity, homosexuality, and the complex relationships between different generations.
