BIO

Yama Rauff is an editor and director of Afghan descent, recognised for his work on the film No Woman released in 2015. His debut short film, an experimental and feminist work also titled No Woman, was originally created for a local festival and went on to receive significant attention at both national and international film festivals.

From an early age, Rauff has been drawn to creative expression, crafting poems and visual narratives throughout his childhood. During his youth, filmmaking emerged as a central passion and became the medium through which he could fully develop his artistic voice. His background as an editor has strongly shaped his approach to storytelling, with a focus on rhythm, structure, and emotional clarity.

Rauff’s work is deeply influenced by his Afghan roots and cultural experiences, which inform both the themes he explores and the perspectives he brings to the screen. Through his films, he often engages with questions of identity, gender, and personal freedom, using experimental forms to challenge conventional narratives. His practice reflects a commitment to personal and socially engaged cinema, grounded in lived experience and cultural memory.
