Willie McMillon is an American film director, screenwriter, and producer who is known for his work on the popular films Meteor Man (1993), The Five Heartbeats (1991), and CB4 (1993). He has been directing films since the late 1980s and has become one of the most influential African-American filmmakers of his generation.

Born in 1961 in East Palo Alto, California, Willie McMillon was raised in a big family of seven children. His father was a steelworker and his mother was a homemaker. McMillon was a talented student who enjoyed reading and was an avid sports fan. He attended East Palo Alto High School, where he was a member of the basketball team and was on the student council. After graduating high school, he attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he majored in English and Film Studies.

McMillon's career in the film industry began in the mid-1980s when he was hired as an assistant director on several feature films. He worked his way up the industry ladder, eventually becoming a producer. In 1991, he wrote and directed his first feature film, The Five Heartbeats, which was a critical and commercial success. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards and won several awards for Best Motion Picture at the NAACP Image Awards. Following this success, McMillon went on to direct several other films, including Meteor Man (1993), CB4 (1993), and The Wood (1999).

In addition to his work as a director, McMillon has also produced several films. In 1989, he produced the film Tough Guys, which was co-written and co-directed by his brother, Michael McMillon. He has also collaborated with director Spike Lee on several projects, including Get on the Bus (1996), He Got Game (1998), and Bamboozled (2000).

McMillon is also a mentor to many aspiring filmmakers. He regularly speaks at universities and film schools about his experiences in the industry and has served as a judge on the student film competition at the Sundance Film Festival. In 2001, he was inducted into the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame.
