Victor Costa Lopes was born in Brazil in 1980. He is a film director, screenwriter and producer.

Victor grew up in a small town in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. From a young age he was interested in storytelling and film. He began making short films with his friends and family at the age of 14.

In 2001, Victor moved to Sao Paulo to pursue a degree in film directing and screenwriting at the University of São Paulo. He graduated in 2004 and soon after, his short films began to gain recognition in Brazil. He was awarded the best short film of the year at the Brazilian Short Film Festival in 2006.

In 2007, Victor co-founded a production company in Sao Paulo. He went on to direct and produce several successful short and feature length films. His feature debut, ‘The Crown’, was nominated for the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2010.

Victor has since won numerous awards for his work, including the Brazilian Academy Award for Best Director for his third feature film, ‘The Best of All Worlds’. His latest feature film, ‘The Secret of the Island’, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018.

Victor is currently working on his sixth film, ‘The Journey of the Sun’, which is set to be released in 2020. He continues to be a prolific filmmaker, creating films that explore the complexity of human relationships and emotions.
