BIO

Ursula Meier (born 4 April 1968) is a Swiss film director and screenwriter. She is best known for her critically acclaimed feature films Home and Sister.

Meier began her career in television, directing several documentaries and television films, including the award-winning documentary The City of My Dreams (1996). In 2008, she made her feature film debut with Home, a drama about a young boy living in a housing development in Switzerland. The film earned numerous awards, including the Audience Award at the Locarno International Film Festival and the Special Jury Prize at the Tokyo International Film Festival.

In 2011, Meier directed Sister, a drama about a young boy who looks after his sister while their parents are away. The film was nominated for Best Film at the British Independent Film Awards and earned Meier the Silver Bear for Best Director at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Meier's third feature film, L'enfant d'en haut, premiered at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. The film earned Meier the Best Director Award at the Cabourg Romantic Film Festival as well as a nomination for the Golden Bear for Best Film at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Meier's fourth feature film, The Stopover, premiered at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. The film was nominated for the Palme d'Or and earned Meier the Best Director Award at the Cabourg Romantic Film Festival.

Meier has also directed numerous short films and television films, including the award-winning short film Silent Snow (2006).

Meier is currently working on her fifth feature film, which is expected to be released in 2021. She also serves as a professor at the Zurich University of the Arts.
