Travis Mathews is an American filmmaker and artist whose work has been featured in festivals and galleries around the world. He has won numerous awards for his work, including the Berlinale Teddy Award, the Frameline Completion Fund, and the Creative Capital Award.

Mathews was born in Houston, Texas, in 1974. He studied at the University of Texas in Austin, and went on to earn a Master's Degree in Film at the California Institute of the Arts. After that, he went on to teach at the San Francisco Art Institute and at the California College of the Arts.

Mathews' most notable works include the feature film "In Their Room" (2009), which was shot in the homes of gay men and was nominated for the Berlinale Teddy Award. He also created the experimental film "I Want Your Love" (2012), which was banned in Australia due to its explicit sexual content. His other works include the documentaries "Interior. Leather Bar." (2013) and "The New Black" (2014).

Mathews has also directed for television, most notably for the Netflix series "Easy" (2016-2017). He also directed the short film "Adam&Eve" (2016), which was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the SXSW Film Festival.

Mathews is also a prolific artist. He has had solo exhibitions at the Walker Art Center, the MIT List Visual Arts Center, and the Berkeley Art Museum. His works have also been featured in group exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim, and the Whitney Museum.
