Timo Novotny is an award-winning film director, writer and producer from Austria. He is best known for his work on feature films such as The Dark Valley, which won the German Film Award for Best Director in 2014, and the critically acclaimed drama, The Wall.

Born in Vienna in 1982, Novotny was raised in a family with a strong artistic background. Novotny's father was a jazz musician while his mother was a sculptor. During his childhood, Novotny was fascinated with the art of filmmaking and was encouraged by his parents to pursue his dreams.

At the age of 18, Novotny enrolled at the Vienna Film Academy and began his studies in filmmaking. During his time at the academy, he developed his own style of filmmaking which became known as "poetic realism." This style of filmmaking focuses on creating a realistic atmosphere and allowing the audience to connect emotionally with the characters.

After graduating from the academy in 2003, Novotny began his career in filmmaking. He directed several short films such as A Moment of Peace (2004) and The Dolls House (2005). Both films won numerous awards and were successful in festivals around the world.
