BIO

Tim Hunter is an American film and television director, producer, and screenwriter. He was born December 21, 1947 in San Francisco, California. He is best known for directing The River's Edge (1986), Tex (1982), The Saint of Fort Washington (1993), and the television series Twin Peaks (1990-1991).

Hunter attended San Francisco State University, where he studied film and theater. After graduating, he moved to Los Angeles and worked as a freelance editor, cameraman, and production assistant. He made his directorial debut in 1978 with the horror film Over the Edge. The film was well-received, and Hunter soon found himself working on a variety of projects for both film and television.

In 1982, Hunter directed the coming-of-age drama Tex. The film starred Matt Dillon and was a moderate success at the box office. He followed this up with the 1986 drama The River's Edge, which starred Keanu Reeves and Crispin Glover. The film was a critical success and helped to launch the careers of both of its young stars.

In 1990, Hunter directed the pilot episode for the television series Twin Peaks. The show was an immediate hit and garnered much critical acclaim. Hunter directed several episodes of the series, as well as the prequel film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me in 1992.

Hunter has since directed several films and television episodes, including the 1993 drama The Saint of Fort Washington and the 2006 true crime drama Alpha Dog. He has also produced several films, including the 2010 drama The Runaways and the 2014 horror film The Town That Dreaded Sundown.

Throughout his career, Hunter has won several awards, including a Critics' Choice Award for Best Director for The River's Edge. He has also been nominated for several Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for his work on Twin Peaks.
