BIO

Thomas Kufus is a German filmmaker, director, and producer who has worked in the film industry for over two decades. He has been involved in some of the most successful German films of the 21st century, including Run Lola Run (1998), Good Bye Lenin! (2003), and The Lives of Others (2006).

Kufus was born in 1963 in Berlin, Germany. He studied film at the University of Television and Film Munich, graduating in 1988. After graduating, he worked as a freelance filmmaker, producing short films and music videos for German television and radio.

In 1998, Kufus made his breakthrough with the release of Run Lola Run. The film was a commercial and critical success, and went on to become one of the most successful German films of all time. Following the success of Run Lola Run, Kufus directed Good Bye Lenin! in 2003. This film was also a success, winning the Silver Bear award at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Kufus followed this up with the critically acclaimed The Lives of Others in 2006. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

Kufus has continued to work steadily in the film industry since then, directing and producing films including The Edge of Heaven (2007) and Soul Kitchen (2009). In 2013, he directed the critically acclaimed drama, Phoenix, which won the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Kufus is a highly respected filmmaker in Germany and his films have been seen around the world. He continues to make films that explore the human condition and have the potential to create meaningful conversations between people. He is a master storyteller, and his films are beloved by both critics and audiences alike.
