Sushmit Ghosh is an award winning director and cinematographer from India, known for his powerful visual storytelling and commitment to socially driven narratives.

He co directed Writing with Fire, his debut feature documentary, alongside Rintu Thomas. Five years in the making, the film premiered at Sundance 2021, where it won both the Audience Award and the Special Jury Award in the World Cinema Documentary Competition. Widely acclaimed by critics, it was described as “profound” by IndieWire and “insightful and inspirational” by The Hollywood Reporter, and went on to win dozens of international awards while becoming the first Indian feature documentary nominated for an Academy Award.

Ghosh’s work has been supported by leading international institutions including the Sundance Institute, Tribeca Institute, Doc Society, SFFILM Fund, IDFA, the Bertha Foundation, Sorfond, and the Finnish Film Foundation. In recognition of his commitment to courageous storytelling, he was named a 2021 IDA Courage Under Fire Award honoree and is also a Sundance Fellow.

In 2009, he co founded Black Ticket Films with Rintu Thomas, a production company dedicated to stories that drive social impact. Through this platform, he has directed and produced a wide range of award winning films that are used globally in advocacy, education, and cultural dialogue.

With a strong visual sensibility and a focus on justice driven storytelling, Ghosh has established himself as a key voice in contemporary documentary cinema from India.
