BIO

Sue Learoyd is a British director of theatre and film. She has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Derek Jacobi, and Dame Judi Dench. She is known for her strong visual style and her ability to bring out the best in her actors.

Sue began her career in the theatre, directing productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre. She quickly established herself as an up-and-coming director and gained critical acclaim for her work on the West End production of ‘The Merchant of Venice’. She then went on to direct a number of other productions for the National Theatre and other major theatres in London.

Sue also worked extensively in television, directing episodes of popular series such as ‘EastEnders’, ‘Casualty’ and ‘The Bill’. She also directed a number of films, including the acclaimed ‘The House of Mirth’, which starred Gillian Anderson, and ‘The Hours’, starring Meryl Streep.

Sue has won several awards for her work, including the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Award for Best Film in 2001 for ‘The House of Mirth’, and the Royal Television Society Award for Best Director in 2004 for her work on ‘The Hours’.

Sue is committed to developing new talent and has been a strong advocate for the advancement of women in the film and television industry. She has mentored many young directors and has been a strong advocate for diversity in the industry.

Sue is also an author and has published two books, ‘The Art of Directing’ and ‘The Art of Acting’, which explore the craft of filmmaking.
