Sofia Pineda Ochoa is a multi-award winning Mexican director and screenwriter. Born in Mexico City in 1989, she is best known for her critically acclaimed films about the Mexican female perspective. She has been called “the voice of the new generation of Mexican cinema” by the country’s media outlets.

Sofia’s career began in 2009 when she wrote and directed her first short film, La más bella, which won the Best Short Film award at the Morelia International Film Festival. This was followed by her first feature film, El corazón de la Mujer, which was released in 2013 and was met with critical acclaim. She won the Best Director award at the Guanajuato International Film Festival for her work.

Since El corazón de la Mujer, Sofia has gone on to direct and write a number of successful films and documentaries. Her 2014 feature film, Las Horas Contigo, was an official selection at the Cannes Film Festival and won the Best Director award at the Huelva Latin American Film Festival. It was also nominated for Best Feature Film at the Ariel Awards, Mexico's top film awards.

Sofia’s latest feature film, El Amor es una Mentira, was released in 2017 and has won several awards, including the Best Actress award at the Huelva Latin American Film Festival and the Best Director award at the Guanajuato International Film Festival.

In addition to her directing and writing credits, Sofia has served as a judge and mentor for the Guanajuato International Film Festival, the Morelia International Film Festival, and the Huelva Latin American Film Festival. She has also been a panelist at the Berlin International Film Festival and the San Sebastian International Film Festival.

Sofia’s films explore a range of themes, from female identity to the struggles of modern-day Mexico. Through her work, she has become an important voice for Mexican women and the country’s youth. Her films have been praised by critics for their bold visuals and powerful storytelling, and her career continues to move from strength to strength.

Known for
