Soetkin Verstegen is an award-winning Belgian film and television director. She has worked in numerous genres, from documentaries to comedies, and has been praised for her bold visual style and her ability to craft complex stories.

Verstegen started her career in the 1990s as an assistant director on various television and film projects. She eventually made the transition to directing and helmed a number of short films, which premiered at festivals around the world. In 1999, she directed her first feature film, the drama The Staircase, which was an official selection at the Cannes Film Festival.

Verstegen then went on to direct the award-winning television series ‘De Witte’ (The White), which was praised for its strong female characters and sensitive portrayal of love and relationships. The series won numerous awards, including a Golden Calf for Best Television Series of the Year.

In 2006, Verstegen directed her second feature film, the drama ‘In the Name of the Father’. The film tells the story of a man who is wrongly convicted for a crime he did not commit and his struggle to prove his innocence. It was an official selection at the Berlin International Film Festival and won numerous awards, including a Golden Calf for Best Film.

Verstegen’s most recent projects include the drama ‘The Earthquake’ (2013), the comedy ‘The Second Time Around’ (2015) and the documentary ‘Life of a Woman’ (2016). All these projects have been critically acclaimed and have won awards at various international festivals.

Verstegen’s work is known for its strong female characters and her ability to craft complex stories with a visual flair. She has received numerous awards for her work, including a Golden Calf for Best Director. She is currently working on a new feature film, which is expected to be released in 2018.
