BIO

Sigfreid Barros-Sanchez is an award-winning director from the Dominican Republic. He has created an impressive body of work, which includes films, television series, and documentaries.

Barros-Sanchez was born in Santo Domingo in 1977. He graduated from the National School of Fine Arts in the Dominican Republic in 1998. After graduating, Barros-Sanchez moved to New York City to attend film school at The New School. He graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in Film and Television.

Barros-Sanchez began his career in the film industry in 2008 when he wrote and directed his first short film, “Perspective”. The film was a success and earned him the “Best Short Film” award at the Dominican Republic’s International Film Festival.

Since then, Barros-Sanchez has directed a number of critically acclaimed feature films, including “The Skin I Live In” (2008), “The Letter” (2009) and “The Perfect Stranger” (2012). His films have been shown at festivals around the world, including the Cannes Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival, and the San Sebastian International Film Festival.

Barros-Sanchez has also directed a number of television series, such as “The Last Days of the Universe” (2014) and “The Promised Land” (2016). He has also directed several documentaries, including “The Longest Journey” (2009) and “The Lost Children of Haiti” (2011).

Barros-Sanchez’s work has earned him numerous awards, including a Goya Award for Best Director for “The Skin I Live In” in 2009, and a Goya Award for Best Film for “The Perfect Stranger” in 2013. He was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short for “The Lost Children of Haiti” in 2011.
