Shaunak Sen is an Indian film director and screenwriter. He is best known for his critically acclaimed debut feature film, "Gul Makai" (2020). Sen was born in Delhi, India, in 1990 and grew up in a middle-class family. Sen studied film at Jamia Milia Islamia and was a part of The Indian Documentary Producers’ Association.

Sen’s debut feature film, "Gul Makai," was released in 2020 and tells the story of Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani schoolgirl who was shot by the Taliban for speaking out against their oppressive regime. The film was co-written by Sen and received critical acclaim, winning the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Urdu.

Sen is known for his unique approach to filmmaking and storytelling. He has a passion for exploring social and political issues in his films, and often uses documentary methods to bring a realistic edge to his work.

In addition to Gul Makai, Sen has directed several short films, including "The Unseen" (2015), "Invisible" (2017), and "The Burning Tree" (2019). He has also worked as a producer on several films, including "Bhutani" (2017), "The Unseen" (2018), and "The Burning Tree" (2020).

In 2021, Sen was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his work on Gul Makai. He was also nominated for the Best Director award at the International Film Festival of India.

Sen is currently working on his next feature film, "The Battle of Churulia," which is set to be released in 2021. The film is based on the life of revolutionary freedom fighter Chandra Shekhar Azad. Sen is also working on producing a web series based on the life of the late Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi.
