Sergii Mukaieliants is a Ukrainian film director, screenwriter, and producer. Born in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine, in 1972, Sergii Mukaieliants began his career as a director by creating short films and documentaries. He graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv, Ukraine, in 1997.
Sergii Mukaieliants’ first feature film, “The Long Road Home” (2004), was critically acclaimed and won the Grand Prix at the International Film Festival in Odessa. His second film, “In the Fog” (2008), earned him international recognition and won the Grand Prix at the San Sebastian International Film Festival as well as the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the Berlin International Film Festival.
In 2010, Sergii Mukaieliants directed “The Island”, which was screened in competition at the Cannes Film Festival. The film was praised for its visual beauty and earned him the Best Director Award at the Kinotavr Film Festival.
In 2012, Sergii Mukaieliants directed “The Guide”, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. The film received numerous awards, including the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival, and the People's Choice Award at the Montreal World Film Festival.
In 2017, Sergii Mukaieliants directed “The Man Who Surprised Everyone”, which won the Best Picture Award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. His most recent film, “My Thoughts Are Silent”, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018 and was nominated for the Palme d'Or.
