Sari Gilman is an acclaimed award-winning director, producer, and writer. She is best known for her feature documentary, Miss Americana, which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival.
Sari was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, where she received her education at Harvard University and Loyola Marymount University. She has a degree in Visual Arts and Media Studies. She began her career as an editor and script supervisor in the independent film world, before making a name for herself as a director.
Sari's first feature documentary, Lost in Living, premiered at the 2007 Independent Film Festival of Boston and won the Best Documentary Feature Award. She has since directed and produced a range of projects, including the feature documentaries Occupy Mississippi, Generation Wealth, and Miss Americana, as well as the short films The Good Life, Sunday Morning, and Not Who You Think I Am.
Sari has earned critical acclaim for her work, including a Peabody Award for Miss Americana and Emmy nominations for Lost in Living and Occupy Mississippi. She has also received numerous awards from film festivals around the world, including the Grand Jury Prize at the 2011 Austin Film Festival for The Good Life and the Grand Jury Prize at the 2013 Chicago International Documentary Festival for Sunday Morning.
Sari is also a dedicated mentor, helping to guide and inspire young filmmakers. She has served as a mentor to numerous filmmakers through the Made in New York Filmmaker Fellowship Program, and is a board member of the IFP Independent Filmmaker Project.
