Sara Markovic is an award-winning director and media executive from Bosnia and Herzegovina. She is best known for her feature films and documentary series, which have been screened at international film festivals and broadcast on television around the world.

Markovic began her career as an editor and graphic designer in the early 2000s, crafting creative projects for commercial and corporate clients. In 2008, she made her directorial debut with the feature film “The Bet”. The film was an international success, screening at the Sarajevo Film Festival and winning the award for Best Screenplay from the International Federation of Film Critics.

Since then, Markovic has gone on to direct a number of acclaimed films and documentaries. She has made several short films, including “The Idea”, which won the Sarajevo Short Film Festival, and the documentary “Voices of Srebrenica”, which focused on the Bosnian War. Her feature film “The Bridge” was selected for the Sundance Film Festival and garnered international attention.

In addition to her film work, Markovic has also served as a media executive for several major media companies. She was the Managing Director of Hayat TV, a Bosnian television station, from 2013 to 2016. During this time, she managed the production of numerous original series and documentaries. She also served as the CEO of N1, a regional news network, from 2016 to 2018.

Markovic is an advocate for women’s rights and gender equality, and is a vocal advocate for the rights of minorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She is a member of several international organisations, including the International Women’s Media Foundation and the Council of Europe.

In 2020, Markovic was awarded the Sarajevo Film Festival’s Heart of Sarajevo Award for her outstanding contribution to the film industry. She is an inspiring figure in the Bosnian film industry, and her work has had a significant impact on the development of the country’s film industry.
