BIO

Sami Mermer is a Turkish film director, producer, and screenwriter. He is best known for his work on such films as “Kirlangiç”, “Kerem”, and “The Last Day”.

Mermer was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey. He studied film directing at the Istanbul University, graduating in 2002. Upon graduation, he worked on several short films before making his feature film debut with “Kirlangiç” in 2008. The film was a success, winning numerous awards and garnering critical acclaim.

In 2010, Mermer released “Kerem”, a coming-of-age drama that was praised for its thoughtful and resonant themes. The film was selected for the 2010 Istanbul International Film Festival, and it won the Best Film award.

In 2013, Mermer directed “The Last Day”, a drama about a young man struggling with his identity in a conservative society. The film garnered critical acclaim and was nominated for several awards, including Best Film at the 2014 Istanbul International Film Festival.

In 2015, Mermer directed “Beautiful Country”, a drama about a young man who discovers his true identity and the lengths he must go to in order to find it. The film was nominated for Best Film at the 2016 Istanbul International Film Festival.

In 2017, Mermer directed “Mehmet’s Story”, a drama about a young man’s journey of self-discovery in a world of violence. The film was nominated for Best Film at the 2018 Istanbul International Film Festival.

Mermer is currently working on the post-production of his latest project, “The Last Day of Summer”. The film is set to be released in 2020.
