Roberto Chile is a highly acclaimed and award-winning director from Chile. He is best known for his powerful narrative films that focus on social and political issues, often with a heavy dose of realism.

Born in Santiago in 1970, Roberto Chile was raised in an impoverished area of the city. He was exposed to a variety of social issues at an early age, such as poverty, inequality, and discrimination. These issues would later become a major theme in his films.

Chile studied at the Catholic University of Chile, where he earned a degree in film production. He studied under acclaimed director Raúl Ruiz, who would become an important influence on his work. After graduation, he began working as an assistant director for several television and film projects.

In 2001, he released his first feature film, “Viento en Contra” (“Wind Against”). The film tackled the issue of immigration and its impact on Chilean society. It was a critical and commercial success, earning him the Silver Bear Award at the Berlin International Film Festival.

He also wrote and directed “No”, a 2012 drama about the 1988 Chilean plebiscite. The film was nominated for a Golden Globe and was selected as Chile’s official entry for the Best Picture category at the 85th Academy Awards.
