Director, Executive Producer

BIO

Randy Murray is an American filmmaker and producer best known for directing the award-winning documentary The Joe Show (2014), a compelling portrait of Arizona’s controversial sheriff Joe Arpaio. Over nearly a decade of filming, Murray captured how Arpaio used media and political spectacle to build one of the most polarizing careers in American law enforcement.

Based in Phoenix, Arizona, Murray is the founder of Randy Murray Productions (RMP), an independent production company he runs with his wife, Theresa Murray. RMP has created acclaimed films, documentaries, and commercial projects for clients ranging from major networks such as CBS, BBC, and Discovery Networks to nonprofit organizations like United Way.

Before establishing his own studio, Murray worked in television and advertising, directing commercials and leading productions at the Desert Production Center—then one of the largest film and TV facilities in the Southwest. In 2001, he transformed the historic KPHO building in downtown Phoenix into First Studio, a creative hub for filmmakers and storytellers.

Murray’s work often explores the intersection of media, power, and truth. With The Joe Show, he offers unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to Arpaio’s relationship with the press, politics, and the public, revealing how image-making can shape democracy itself. The film earned multiple awards, including the Director’s Choice Activism Award at the Sedona Film Festival and Best Documentary at the Geneva Film Festival.

Through his company and ongoing projects, Randy Murray continues to champion independent filmmaking and strengthen the creative community in Arizona and beyond.
