BIO

Ramiro Millán is a Mexican film director known for his award-winning work in documentaries, feature films, and television series.

Millán was born in Mexico City in 1971 and grew up in Guadalajara. He attended the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica in Mexico City, where he studied film directing and screenwriting. After graduating from CCC, he worked as an assistant director for several productions, including films by renowned directors such as Carlos Carrera, Arturo Ripstein, and Vicente Leñero.

In 2000, he wrote and directed his first feature film, “El Buen Sabor de la Vida” (The Good Taste of Life), which won the prestigious Ariel Award for Best Short Film. This success led to his first feature film, “Efectos Secundarios” (Side Effects), which won the Ariel Award for Best Mexican Film in 2004.

Millán then began working in television, directing episodes of the popular series “La Risa en Vacaciones” (Laughter on Vacation) and “Siempre en Domingo” (Always on Sunday). He also directed several documentaries, including “Los Ojos de México” (The Eyes of Mexico) and “La Ciudad de los Niños” (The City of Children), both of which won awards at international film festivals.

In 2010, Millán directed his second feature film, “La Vida Inesperada” (The Unexpected Life), which won the Silver Ariel Award for Best Mexican Film. His third feature, “Año Bisiesto” (Leap Year), won the Best Mexican Film award at the Guadalajara International Film Festival in 2011.

In 2013, he directed his first television series, “Los Simuladores” (The Simulators), which was a critical and commercial success. He followed this with the award-winning series “La Reina del Sur” (Queen of the South), which premiered in 2015 and quickly became one of the most watched series in Mexico.

Millán continues to work in television, feature films, and documentaries, and his work has consistently won awards at international film festivals. He has established himself as one of the most talented and successful directors in Mexico.
