BIO

Qiu Jiongjiong is a renowned Chinese film director, writer, producer and actor who has been in the business for over three decades. He is known for his award-winning films such as 'The Silent War' (2012), 'The Road' (2014), 'The Lovers' (2015), 'The Shadow Play' (2016) and 'The Crossing' (2017).

Qiu was born in 1959 in Sichuan, China, and he attended Beijing Film Academy in 1985. After graduating, he worked as a film editor and scriptwriter for a number of films before making his directorial debut in 1992 with the film 'Du Li Si'. His breakthrough came in 1996 with 'Aftershock', which won the Golden Rooster Award for Best Feature Film.

Qiu has since gone on to direct a number of critically acclaimed films, including 'The Silent War', which won the Silver Bear award at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2012, and 'The Road', which was nominated for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 2014. In 2016, his film 'The Shadow Play' won the Grand Prize at the Shanghai International Film Festival.

In addition to his film work, Qiu has also written several novels, including 'The Lovers', which was adapted into a film in 2015. He has also served as a professor at the Beijing Film Academy since 2009.

Qiu has been recognized for his work with numerous awards, including the Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters in 2012 and the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Asian Film Awards in 2019. He is currently working on a number of film projects, including the upcoming 'The Great Wall', which is due to be released in 2021.
