Phil Donahue is an American media personality, writer, and producer best known for hosting the television talk show The Phil Donahue Show. He was born on December 21, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio. His father, Phillip Donahue, was an insurance salesman and his mother, Catherine Donahue, was a homemaker.

Donahue attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated in 1957 with a B.A. in business administration. He then worked as a sales representative for a local Cincinnati television station, then moved on to become a television news reporter in Dayton, Ohio. It was there that he began hosting his own show, which became known as The Phil Donahue Show.

The Phil Donahue Show was an instant success, with Donahue's humanistic approach to the topics of the day and his willingness to discuss controversial issues. The show aired nationally from 1967 to 1996 and was aired in over 200 countries around the world. Donahue won numerous awards for his work on the show, including 29 Emmy Awards.

In addition to The Phil Donahue Show, Donahue has hosted two other talk shows, Donahue in 2003 and Phil Donahue Show in 2006.
