Joshua Izenberg is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and director based in Oakland, California. He is best known for his work on the documentary series Frontline and for directing the feature documentary I'm Fine, Thanks.
Izenberg was born in 1988 in San Francisco, California. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he graduated with a degree in Political Science. After college, he worked as a freelance editor, director, and producer for a variety of networks and companies such as The Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, and The New York Times.
Izenberg's career in documentary filmmaking began in 2012 when he was hired to work on the acclaimed PBS documentary series Frontline. He went on to direct and produce a number of episodes for the series, and eventually directed and produced two feature documentary films, I'm Fine, Thanks and All The Difference.
I'm Fine, Thanks is a feature documentary about the life of a young woman with depression. The film follows her journey as she attempts to cope with her mental health and search for meaning in her life. The film was praised for its intimate and honest portrayal of depression and earned Izenberg numerous awards, including Best Documentary at the San Francisco International Film Festival in 2016.
All The Difference is a feature documentary about two African American teenagers from Chicago's South Side as they pursue their dream of graduating high school and attending college. The film explores the systemic challenges these young men face in their pursuit of a higher education and offers an intimate portrayal of their struggles. All The Difference won numerous awards including the 2016 Peabody Award for Excellence in Documentary Filmmaking.
Outside of documentary filmmaking, Izenberg is an active member of his local community, often providing his time and resources to a variety of non-profit organizations. He is also an avid photographer and has recently begun teaching classes in cinematography at a local college.
