Marcus Vetter is a German filmmaker, director, and producer best known for his award-winning documentaries. He is the director and producer of the acclaimed films The Heart of Jenin (2008) and My Father, the Banker (2013).
Vetter was born in Germany in 1967 and grew up in Munich. He studied medicine in Munich and Berlin and went on to become a doctor. After working in the medical field, he became interested in film and decided to pursue a career in filmmaking. He studied film at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne, Germany.
Vetter’s first feature documentary, The Heart of Jenin, premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2008 and won several awards, including the Crystal Bear for Best Documentary at the Berlinale, the Human Rights Film Award at the Munich Documentary Film Festival, and the German Film Award for Best Documentary. The film tells the story of a Palestinian father who gives up his son’s organs for donation after he is killed in an Israeli raid.
Vetter’s second feature documentary, My Father, the Banker, tells the story of a German banker who is arrested and charged with fraud. The film was released in 2013 and was nominated for the German Film Award for Best Documentary.
Vetter has also directed several short films and television documentaries, including the Emmy-nominated series In the Name of God (2012). He is currently working on a new feature documentary about the life of the American artist Keith Haring.
Vetter has won numerous awards and accolades for his work, including the German Television Award for Best Documentary, the Cinema for Peace Award, and the Grand Prize at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam. He has become widely recognized as one of the leading documentary filmmakers today.
