Michele Manzolini is an Italian director and screenwriter whose career in the film industry began in the early 2000s. His feature length debut, The Best of Youth, earned him critical acclaim and the David di Donatello Award for Best Director in 2003. Manzolini also received a nomination for the Silver Ribbon for Best Director and a nomination at the European Film Awards.

Born in Rome in 1965, Manzolini studied film at the University of Perugia and began making short films. This led to his first feature-length movie, The Best of Youth, released in 2003. This epic drama follows two Italian brothers through the social and political changes of the 1960s and 70s. The film was widely praised for its thoughtful and realistic depiction of Italian life during this tumultuous period.

Manzolini followed up his success with films such as L'amore ritorna (2004) and The Unknown Woman (2006). The Unknown Woman tells the story of a Polish immigrant who is forced to work as a maid in an Italian family in order to provide for her daughter. This film was Manzolini’s most successful to date, earning him two more Silver Ribbon nominations and a nomination for the European Film Awards for Best Film.

In 2009, Manzolini directed the drama Come Undone, which tells the story of a woman who embarks on a passionate affair with a married man. This film earned him another Silver Ribbon nomination. He then directed the drama La Nostra Vita (2010), which follows a father’s struggle to keep his family together after his wife’s death. This film earned him a nomination at the David di Donatello Awards for Best Director.

Manzolini's last film to date was the 2013 drama A 5 stelle. This film follows a young man as he attempts to make a life for himself in the city. It was well-received by critics and earned him another Silver Ribbon nomination.
