BIO

Pavol Barabas is a Slovakian film director and writer. He is best known for his critically acclaimed films such as The Way Things Go (2008), Zabudnuta Krcma (2011), and the award-winning comedy Vojna (2014).

Barabas began his career in filmmaking in 2000 when he wrote and directed the short film, “Konícke”. His first feature film, The Way Things Go (2008), was an exploration of the struggles of an aging couple as they try to come to terms with the changing dynamics of their relationship. The film received critical acclaim and earned Barabas a Slovakian Academy Award for Best Film.

In 2011, Barabas wrote and directed the film Zabudnuta Krcma, which told the story of a small village in Slovakia that is struggling to survive after the collapse of communism. The film was praised for its ability to capture the struggles of rural life in Slovakia and earned Barabas his second Slovakian Academy Award for Best Film.

In 2014, Barabas wrote and directed the comedy Vojna, which won the Best Film award at the 2014 Slovakian Academy Awards. The film follows the story of a group of young people who, after failing to find jobs in their hometown, join the army and find themselves in a comedic adventure. The film was praised for its humor and its exploration of the struggles of young people in Slovakia.

In addition to his work in film, Barabas has also directed several television series, including Zabudnutá Krcma, which aired on Slovakian television in 2011. He has also written several books, including the novel “The Unforgettable Inn”, which was published in 2013.

Barabas has become one of the most acclaimed directors in Slovakia, with his films being praised for their exploration of the struggles of everyday life in Slovakia. His work has earned him numerous awards, including three Slovakian Academy Awards for Best Film. He continues to write and direct films and television series, and is working on his next project, a feature-length documentary about the history of the Slovakian film industry.
