Oliver Hardt is a German film director, producer, and writer. He is best known for his work in the horror and action genres. Born in Berlin in 1956, he started his career at the age of 19, when he became an assistant director for a small local film studio. Over the next several years, he worked his way up through the ranks of the studio, eventually becoming a full-fledged director.
His first feature film, "Schwarz und Weiss" (Black and White) was released in 1982 to great critical acclaim. It was a dark and atmospheric horror film that was hailed as a breakthrough in German cinema. The success of the film earned Hardt numerous awards, including the German Film Award for Best Film.
In 1985, Hardt released his second feature, "Der Fluch" (The Curse), which was an even bigger success than his first film. The movie was a horror-thriller that depicted a family whose home is cursed by a mysterious force. The film was a huge hit, grossing over $100 million and earning Hardt additional awards.
Hardt continued to make films throughout the 1990s and 2000s, with most of his films being in the horror and action genres. These included "Traumfänger" (Dreamcatcher, 1994), "Der Untergang" (The Downfall, 1998), and "Der Ewige Krieger" (The Eternal Warrior, 2006). He also directed several television films, such as "Der Hexenkessel" (The Witch's Cauldron, 1992).
In recent years, Hardt has shifted his focus to producing and writing. He has produced several films, including "Der Wächter" (The Guardian, 2016) and "Der Weg des Kriegers" (The Path of the Warrior, 2019). He has also written scripts for numerous films, including "Der Tag der Abrechnung" (The Day of Reckoning, 2019).
Throughout his career, Hardt has been honored with numerous awards, including the German Film Award for Best Film, the German Director's Guild Award, and the Berlinale Talent Award. He has also been nominated for two Academy Awards, for Best Original Screenplay for "Der Fluch" (The Curse) and Best Foreign Language Film for "Der Tag der Abrechnung" (The Day of Reckoning).
