BIO

Nicolas Lachapelle is a Canadian documentary filmmaker and journalist whose work explores the relationship between people and territory through themes of exile, belonging, and memory. Moving fluidly between cinema and sound documentary, his films construct intimate portraits shaped by landscape, identity, and collective history.

His work has been presented at festivals in Canada and internationally, earning recognition for its distinctive narrative approach and hybrid forms. In 2022, he received the Best First Documentary Work award at the Rendez vous Québec Cinéma. His films have also been nominated for Best Short Documentary at both the Gala Québec Cinéma and the Canadian Screen Awards.

Lachapelle’s filmography reflects a consistent interest in communities on the margins and the invisible ties that connect individuals to place. His projects often blur the boundaries between documentary forms, combining observational cinema, archival elements, and sound driven storytelling.
