BIO

Natalia Orozco is an award-winning Colombian director, producer, editor and screenwriter. Born in Medellin, Colombia in 1982, she began her career as an editor at a local television station. She then went on to study filmmaking at the University of the Andes in Bogota, Colombia, where she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in audiovisual studies.

Orozco's first film, Una Parte del Cielo (A Part of Heaven), was released in 2009 and was nominated for Best Director at the 2009 Cartagena Film Festival. Her next film, Paraíso (Paradise), was released in 2011 and won the Grand Prize at the 2011 Cartagena Film Festival.

In 2012, Orozco received the prestigious Goya Award for Best Short Film for her film De la Calle (From the Street). In 2013, she wrote and directed the feature film La estrategia del agua (The Water Strategy), which won the Goya Award for Best Original Screenplay.

Orozco's next film, El abrazo de la serpiente (Embrace of the Serpent), was released in 2015 to critical acclaim. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards, and won the award for Best Latin American Film at the 2017 Goya Awards.

In addition to her film work, Orozco is also an educator and has taught at the University of the Andes and the University of Antioquia. She is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Outside of filmmaking, Orozco is an advocate for women's rights and is an active supporter of the Women's Equality Center in Medellin. She is also a public speaker and has given talks on filmmaking at universities and festivals around the world.

Orozco's films have earned her numerous awards and critical acclaim, and she is considered one of Colombia's most talented and respected directors. Her latest film, Amor y anarquía (Love and Anarchy), is set for release in 2021.
