BIO

Nana Janelidze is a Georgian film director, screenwriter and producer. She was born in Tbilisi, Georgia in 1981. She graduated from the Tbilisi State University with a degree in film and television directing in 2006.

Janelidze started her career as an assistant director, working on films such as The Other Bank (2009) and In Bloom (2013). Her first feature film, Brides (2017), won the Best Film prize at the 15th International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. The film also received numerous awards including the Grand Prix at the 38th Moscow International Film Festival and the Grand Prix at the 17th International Film Festival in Tbilisi.

Janelidze’s second feature film, When the Earth Seems to Be Light (2019), was selected for the Directors' Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival. The film was highly praised by critics and won numerous awards including the Best Film prize at the 10th International Film Festival in Jerusalem, Israel.

In addition to her work in film, Janelidze is also an active advocate for women’s rights in the film industry. She is the founder and president of the Georgian Film Academy, an organization that promotes and supports female filmmakers in Georgia. She has also served as a jury member at several international film festivals, including the Cannes Film Festival, the Tokyo International Film Festival, and the Berlin International Film Festival.

Janelidze’s work has been shown at numerous film festivals around the world, including the Toronto International Film Festival, the Venice Film Festival, and the Sundance Film Festival. Her films have been praised for their visual beauty and thought-provoking storylines. Janelidze is a powerful voice in the international film industry and her work is helping to shape the future of filmmaking.
