Michael Beattie is an award-winning director of television, film and theatre. He is best known for his work on the television series ‘The Walking Dead’, for which he directed four episodes from season one to season three.
Beattie was born in London, England in 1978. He attended Oxford University where he completed a degree in law. After graduating, he worked as an assistant director on various television series, including ‘The Bill’ and ‘Holby City’, before making his debut as a director with an episode of ‘Doctors’ in 2003.
Beattie’s work in television has earned him a BAFTA Award nomination for Best Director in a Drama Series in 2008. He followed this up with directing credits on ‘Primeval’ and ‘Merlin’, as well as episodes of ‘Battlestar Galactica’ and ‘The Tudors’.
In 2010, Beattie made his feature film debut with ‘The Veteran’, which starred Toby Kebbell as an ex-soldier struggling to readjust to civilian life. The film won several awards at film festivals around the world, including the Audience Award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
In 2012, Beattie directed his first episode of ‘The Walking Dead’, which proved to be a major hit with viewers and critics alike. He went on to direct three more episodes of the series, as well as a short film set in the same universe, ‘The Oath’.
Beattie is currently directing his second feature film, ‘Hurt by Paradise’, which is set for release in 2017. He also has several television projects in development, including a new adaptation of ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’.
Throughout his career, Beattie has proven himself to be a versatile and talented director. He has shown an ability to bring a unique vision to both television and film, and his work has been praised for its originality and emotional depth. He is certainly one of the most exciting directors working today.
