BIO

Michael Attwell is an acclaimed British director and actor best known for his work in television and film. He was born in London, England in 1966 and grew up in Hackney. After studying drama at the renowned Guildhall School of Music and Drama, he made his professional debut in the early 1990s, appearing in a variety of television shows including EastEnders and The Bill.

In the late 1990s, Michael made his directorial debut with the independent feature film The Big Steal. He then went on to direct several further films, including The Here After, which saw him nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best British Film. He also directed the award-winning BBC drama Life is Sweet, starring Jane Horrocks, and the multi-award-winning BBC drama The Cazalets.

In the early 2000s, Michael branched out into television directing, working on a variety of shows including The Bill, Doctors and Casualty. He then went on to direct high-profile drama series such as Death in Paradise, The Wrong Mans, Collision, and Requiem.

Michael has also directed several stage productions including the award-winning production of J.B. Priestley’s An Inspector Calls at the National Theatre.

Throughout his career, Michael has been recognised for his excellence in directing, with numerous award nominations and wins. He won a BAFTA Award for Best Single Drama in 2004 for The Cazalets, and was again nominated for his work on The Wrong Mans in 2014.

Michael Attwell is an experienced and highly respected director whose work has been praised by both critics and audiences alike. He is a master of both film and television, and his directorial style combines both the subtle and the spectacular.
