BIO

Mark Olshaker is an American filmmaker, director, and producer. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 1, 1951, he attended the University of Pennsylvania, studying English and American Literature, and the University of Southern California, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts in Film and Television.

Olshaker began his career as a documentary filmmaker, making short films for the Discovery Channel and National Geographic. In 1997, he made his feature film debut with the psychological thriller “The Shadow Hours,” starring Balthazar Getty. The film received critical acclaim, and earned Olshaker a nomination for an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature.

In 2000, Olshaker directed the critically acclaimed dramatic thriller “The Invisible Circus,” starring Cameron Diaz and Christopher Eccleston. The film was a box office success and earned Olshaker his second Independent Spirit Award nomination and a nomination for an MTV Movie Award.

In 2002, Olshaker directed the romantic comedy “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. The film was a box office success, and earned Olshaker an MTV Movie Award and a nomination for a Teen Choice Award.

In 2005, Olshaker directed the psychological thriller “The Jacket,” starring Adrien Brody and Keira Knightley. The film was a box office success, and earned Olshaker a Saturn Award nomination for Best Director.

In recent years, Olshaker has directed a number of television movies, including “The Perfect Teacher” (2010), “The Front” (2011), and “Til Death Do Us Part” (2014). He also directed the short film “The Last Supper” (2015), which won the Jury Award at the San Diego International Short Film Festival.

Olshaker is known for his ability to create suspenseful and thought-provoking films. He is also praised for his excellent use of camera angles and lighting, creating a visual style that has become his signature.
