BIO

Maria Mire was born in Maputo in 1979 and lives and works in Lisbon. Her artistic and research practice focuses mainly on the perception of the moving image. She holds a PhD in Art and Design from FBAUP, completed in 2016 with the thesis “Phantasmagorias: the moving image in the field of contemporary artistic practice”. She is a teacher and co director of the Cinema and Moving Image Department at Ar.Co in Lisbon. She also teaches in the PhD in Media Art and Communication at ULHT and in the Master in Arts of Sound and Image at ESAD.CR.

She has been part of several collaborative artistic projects, including Coletivo Embankment, Plataforma Ma and Patê Filmes. She has also developed collaborative projects of critique and artistic speculation with Aida Castro. Her film “Parto sem dor” was selected for INDIELISBOA, Festival Caminhos do Cinema Português and Porto Femme International Film Festival, where it received the Prize for Best Documentary of the National Competition.
