Marcelo Tarud is a Chilean filmmaker, journalist, and actor whose work centres on social issues, collective memory, and human rights. He is the director, writer, and producer of the feature length documentary Created Silence, his debut feature, which is currently available on international platforms. The film investigates irregular adoptions, institutional child care, and foster systems in Chile, giving voice to survivors of decades of systematic rights violations.
In 2020, he directed the first documentary series focused on the Mapuche people to be broadcast on Chilean national television, contributing to wider public visibility of Indigenous histories and perspectives. Earlier in his career, he directed the short film Happy Family, which received three awards at international film festivals.
Alongside his directing work, Marcelo Tarud is the founder of Ecoarriendos, a Chile based audiovisual production initiative dedicated to socially driven documentary projects. His practice combines journalism, cinema, and activism, with a strong commitment to exposing silenced histories and supporting processes of truth, memory, and reparation.
