Lucy Thane is a renowned documentary filmmaker known for her compelling storytelling and ability to shed light on underrepresented narratives. Born in 1985 in Portland, Oregon, Lucy grew up in a family that valued creativity and critical thinking. Her father was a journalist, while her mother was a visual artist, which influenced her artistic sensibilities from a young age.

After completing high school, Lucy attended the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Film Studies. During her college years, she developed a passion for documentary filmmaking, captivated by its power to inform, inspire, and incite change. Lucy's early exposure to the works of influential documentarians like Barbara Kopple and Errol Morris fueled her desire to explore social issues and human stories through film.

Following her graduation, Lucy began her career in public television, where she honed her skills as a researcher and assistant director on various documentary projects.
