Lisa Nicol is an award-winning director and producer based in Los Angeles. She is known for directing and producing documentaries, feature films, and television shows that explore topics such as identity, gender, race, and social justice.

Born in New Zealand, Nicol started her career as a documentary filmmaker in the late 1990s. She quickly made a name for herself in the industry, directing and producing numerous projects for the BBC, ITV, National Geographic, and the Discovery Channel.

In 2003, Nicol made her feature film directorial debut with the critically acclaimed drama, The House of the Sleeping Beauties. The film won several awards at international film festivals and earned Nicol a nomination for the prestigious Camera d'Or Award at the Cannes Film Festival.

Nicol continued to make a name for herself in Hollywood, directing television shows such as Ugly Betty, Gossip Girl, and Hart of Dixie. She also directed feature films such as The Book of Love and The Dogwalker.

In 2013, Nicol received the prestigious Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentary and Non-Fiction Programming for her documentary series, The Invisible War. The series highlighted the issue of sexual assault in the military and was widely praised for its honest and powerful portrayal of the subject.

Nicol has also made a name for herself as a producer, working on such projects as the Emmy-winning documentary series, American Masters, as well as the Oscar-nominated documentary, The Square.

Nicol continues to direct and produce projects that explore pressing social issues and tell powerful stories. She is also active in the Los Angeles community, working with organizations such as Women in Film and the International Documentary Association.
