BIO

Liesbeth De Ceulaer is a Belgian independent filmmaker based in Brussels. Her work explores the tense and complex relationship between humans and their environment, developing cinematic worlds in which documentary and fiction remain in constant dialogue.

Through an observational yet poetic approach, her films move fluidly between reality and imagination, questioning how landscapes, climates, and non human forces shape human experience. Her earlier works, The Best Act on the Isle and Behind the Redwood Curtain, were screened at international festivals including Docville, where she received the Jury Prize for Best Belgian Documentary, Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival, GIFF in South Korea, and Ânûû rû Âboro.

Her feature film Victoria premiered at the Berlinale and went on to receive nine festival awards, confirming her distinctive voice within contemporary independent cinema. Across her filmography, De Ceulaer consistently blurs formal boundaries, creating immersive cinematic experiences that reflect on ecology, perception, and the fragile balance between human presence and the natural world.
