BIO

Levon Grigoryan (born October 30, 1989) is an Armenian film director and screenwriter. He is best known for his feature films ‘If Only’ (2014) and ‘The Line’ (2017).

Grigoryan was born in Yerevan, Armenia. He was raised in a family of filmmakers and actors and it was only natural that he developed an interest in filmmaking at a very early age. After graduating from high school, Grigoryan decided to pursue his passion and enrolled in the Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography, where he graduated in 2013 with a degree in Film Directing.

Grigoryan’s first feature film, ‘If Only’, was released in 2014. The film tells the story of a young Armenian woman who is forced to confront her own identity when her family moves to the United States. Grigoryan’s thoughtful and complex script and direction earned him critical acclaim and numerous awards, including the Silver George at the Moscow International Film Festival.

In 2017, Grigoryan released his second feature film, ‘The Line’. The film tells the story of a young Armenian man who is drafted into the military and sent to the front lines of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Grigoryan’s powerful and emotionally charged script was praised by critics and earned him a nomination for the Golden Apricot at the Yerevan International Film Festival.

In addition to his work on feature films, Grigoryan has also written and directed several short films, including ‘Torn’ (2015) and ‘The Cave’ (2016). He has also written and directed several music videos, including ‘The Birth of a Nation’ (2016) and ‘The Unsung Heroes’ (2017).

Grigoryan’s films have been praised for their complex and nuanced stories, as well as their thoughtful direction and cinematography. His films have also been praised for their willingness to explore difficult and sometimes taboo subjects, such as the Armenian genocide and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
