Laura Plancarte lives and works in London and has been making films and visual art since 2009. In 2006 and 2007, she received grants from BNP Paribas in recognition of her artistic career. Her work has also been supported by institutions including La Colección Jumex, The Montana Film Office, and UNAM.
Her documentary Hermanos won the Audience Award at SAFF in 2018 and was later acquired by Amazon Prime Video. Her film Non Western premiered at Visions du Réel in 2020 and was selected for Best of Fests at IDFA.
In 2022, she was nominated for the Chicken and Egg career award. Her most recent documentary, Mexican Dream, was selected at WIP LATAM San Sebastián in 2022, won Impulso Morelia in 2022, and premiered at Hot Docs in 2024. The film won Best Film at DocsBarcelona 2024 and is currently distributed in Spain and Mexico, with theatrical releases in both countries.
