BIO

Kent Jones is an American film director, producer, and writer who has been part of the film community for over a decade. He is best known as the director of the critically acclaimed film "Hitchcock/Truffaut" (2015).

Jones was born in New York City in 1976. He grew up in a family of filmmakers, with his father being a documentary filmmaker and his mother a film historian. From an early age, Jones was exposed to films and art, and was encouraged to explore his own creative pursuits.

Jones studied film at Bard College and then at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. After he graduated, he worked as a film programmer for the New York Film Festival and then at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. While at the Film Society, he created the “Views from the Avant-Garde” program.

In 2009, Jones made his directorial debut with the documentary "Valentin de las Sierras". The film was praised by critics and went on to be screened at film festivals around the world. The success of the film led to Jones’s next feature, the documentary "Hitchcock/Truffaut" (2015). The film is a celebration of the famous 1962 dialogue between Alfred Hitchcock and François Truffaut that changed the way films were made and perceived. The film was nominated for a number of awards, including the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

In 2018, Jones wrote and directed his first narrative feature, "Diane". The film follows the story of an elderly woman struggling to come to terms with her past and her relationships. The film earned Jones much acclaim and he was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Director.

In addition to his film work, Jones has also written for the New York Times and Vogue. He is currently a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the National Board of Review.

Jones has achieved much success in his career, but he remains humble and passionate about his work. He continues to explore new ideas and challenge himself as a filmmaker.
