BIO

Keith Sicat is an award-winning Filipino director, cinematographer, and editor. He has directed, edited, and photographed a number of feature and short films, documentaries, commercials, and music videos. In 2020, his feature film, “Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan” won Best Picture and Best Editing at the Metro Manila Film Festival.

Sicat was born in Quezon City, Philippines in 1977. He studied cinematography at the University of the Philippines Film Institute, graduating in 2002. After graduating, he worked as a freelance cinematographer for numerous local and international productions.

In 2006, Sicat directed his first feature film, “Kambyo.” It was an independent production and was screened in various international film festivals, including Cannes. The film received a number of awards and nominations, including the Grand Jury Prize at the 13th Cinemanila International Film Festival.

In 2009, Sicat directed “Ang Panggagahasa Kay Fe” (“The Rape of Fe”), a crime drama about a young woman, Fe, who is kidnapped and raped. The film went on to win awards at the 2010 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival, including Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Editing.

Sicat went on to direct several more feature films, including 2013’s “Kapit Bisig para sa Ilog Pasig” (“Clasping Hands for the Pasig River”) and 2016’s “Ang Babaeng Humayo” (“The Woman Who Left”). The latter won the Golden Lion at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival and was the first Filipino feature film to win the award.

In addition to directing, Sicat has also edited and photographed several films. His work as a cinematographer has earned him various awards, including Best Cinematography at the 2020 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.

Sicat continues to make films that challenge societal norms and provoke thought. He is a highly respected and sought-after filmmaker in the Philippines and abroad.
