Karen Stokkendal Poulsen is an internationally acclaimed Danish film director, screenwriter, and producer. She has directed award-winning feature films, documentaries, and television series. She is known for her visually stunning and emotionally intense stories, often featuring female protagonists.

Karen was born in Copenhagen in 1971. She studied at The National Film School of Denmark, graduating in 2005. During her studies, she made several acclaimed short films, including the award-winning “Lonely Heart” (2003).

Karen’s feature film debut was the critically acclaimed “Room 304” (2007), which won awards at several international film festivals. The film was also selected for the Cannes Film Festival’s prestigious “Un Certain Regard” category. Karen’s subsequent feature films, “The Protector” (2008) and “The Day My Father Became a Bush” (2009), were also well-received.

Karen has worked on a wide range of projects, including television series, documentaries, and short films. She has directed the documentary “Rescue Me” (2010), which was nominated for a Nordic Council Film Prize, and the television series “The Department” (2012-2013). In 2011, Karen directed the feature film “The Escape”, which won the Grand Prix at the Tokyo International Film Festival.

Karen has continued her creative output with the feature film “The Shamer’s Daughter” (2015), which was selected for the Berlin International Film Festival’s “Generation” section. Her most recent feature film, “The Charmer” (2017), was selected for the Cannes Film Festival and won the Best Director Award at Tokyo Filmex.

Karen has demonstrated a remarkable ability to bring compelling stories to the screen. Her work has been praised for its visual beauty, complex characters, and emotionally powerful stories.
