BIO

Julio Sánchez Veiga is a Spanish film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is best known for his work on films such as “Tito and the Birds”, “The Day I Lost My Shadow”, and “The Sea of Trees”.

Born and raised in Madrid, Spain, Julio Sánchez Veiga always had a passion for storytelling. From a young age, he was captivated by classic films and the art of cinema. In his teens, he began writing short stories and scripts. After graduating from high school, Julio was accepted into the prestigious Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where he studied filmmaking.

During his time at university, Julio made several short films, some of which were later selected and screened at several international film festivals. After completing his studies, he began his professional career by working for several production companies, writing scripts and directing short films.

In 2014, Julio made his feature film debut with the critically acclaimed “Tito and the Birds”. The film was an instant success, earning him a nomination for the Goya Awards for Best Animated Feature Film. This was followed by the psychological drama “The Day I Lost My Shadow”, which won the Grand Prix at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.

In 2020, Julio directed his third feature film, “The Sea of Trees”. The film was selected to be screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival and received positive reviews from critics.

Throughout his career, Julio has worked with some of the best actors and actresses in Spain, including Emma Suárez, Álvaro Cervantes, and Isak Férriz. He has also collaborated with other renowned filmmakers, such as Pedro Almodóvar and Alejandro Amenábar.

Julio Sánchez Veiga has established himself as one of the most talented and innovative filmmakers of his generation. His films have been praised for their unique visual style and captivating storytelling. With each new project, Julio continues to push the boundaries of cinema and explore new possibilities.
